Founder's Awards
On Wednesday, May 21st, the Founder's Awards and Recognitions were presented by our Founder, Constance Ortiz, along with the Odyssey Board of Directors and Odyssey Principals. Recognitions were given to our Teacher, Employee and Student of the Year as well as our 5, 10, and 15 Year Anniversary Employees.

Checkmate!
Odyssey student, Pharaoh, attended the St. Petersburg Chess Club ‘s Grandmaster Simul and beat the grandmaster, Vladimir Georgiev. A GM is the top level of chess player and the highest title in chess. A simul, or simultaneous exhibition, is a chess event where a very strong player, like a grandmaster, battles several opponents simultaneously. This is a picture of Grand Master, Georgiev and Pharoah who is wearing his medal proudly. He won a gift certificate to Barnes and Nobles where he plans on buying chess books.
Financial Literacy for Students
Friday May 16th, two representatives from Fifth/Third Bank came to speak to AVID High School students about credit. Students completed a sample budget so they can plan to let their money work for them. Look out world, these kids will be so smart with their money, they could retire early!
Empowering Students for Success
This week we welcomed esteemed motivational speaker Colonel Ray Phillips to speak to students in grades 6-11. He shared great tips for a successful life including surrounding yourself with OQP, only quality people, and where your focus goes, your energy flows. Students made real connections between his message and guarantee guidance for their future lives. Thank you, Colonel!

Grievance Procedures
Step 1: Request Teacher conference to clarify issue
Step 2: Contact the Site Administrator if unresolved with the teacher
Step 3: **Contact Board Designated Parent Representative
Step 4: Contact the President of the Governing Board
Step 5: Present issue at the next monthly Board Meeting if unresolved
Step 6: Seek mediation with the Sponsor
**Mrs. Amber Miller has been designated by the OCS Board of Directors as the Representative to Facilitate Parental Involvement, provide access to information, assist parents and others with questions and concerns, and resolve disputes according to charter requirements.
