Honesty: Our Florida Resiliency Virtue of the Month
Honesty is the foundation of trust and strong character. When children choose truth, even when it’s hard, they show respect, responsibility, and reliability. Being honest tells others, “You can count on me.” At home, share stories about times when honesty was tough but worthwhile. Encourage kids to admit mistakes and learn from them—because honesty isn’t about perfection, it’s about growth. By practicing truthfulness, children build friendships, strengthen family bonds, and create a community where trust is expected and valued.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
Walk to School Day
Our students started their day with fresh air and exercise during the recent Walk to School Day! To encourage participation, buses dropped students off a few blocks away, giving them a chance to get their steps in. This short walk was a wonderful way to promote a healthy habit and energize everyone for a day of learning. Starting the day with this simple physical activity is a fantastic way to boost energy, improve focus, and build healthy routines.
Write Score in ELA
Students in Mr. Carpio’s English class complete their Write Score assessment, a writing program that measures skills and provides feedback to help them grow as writers. Their commitment to this process is building a strong foundation for clear and effective communication in the future.
Building Virtual Worlds
Students in Ms. Taylor's Game Design class are bringing their creativity to life by building 3D landscapes, called Terrains, in Unity. From designing entire outdoor environments to creating detailed 3D rooms, they are learning how to construct the worlds where future games will come to life. These digital landscapes and environments showcase their growing skills in design and world-building—an inspiring step for our future Titan game designers.
Art Students Dive Into October with Creativity
Art students have started October with a burst of imagination and color. Students in all levels are embracing new projects that showcase both skill and personal expression. They launched the month with the annual Inktober Drawing Challenge, encouraging students to practice daily sketching and explore new themes with ink. In Painting 1, students are creating symbolic artworks using expressive watercolor techniques, blending meaning and emotion into each brushstroke. Meanwhile, AP Art students are lending their talents to a seasonal project—hand-painting pumpkins that will be featured in the upcoming “Poke-a-Pumpkin” raffle.
From sketchbooks to pumpkins, creativity is everywhere in the studio this fall.
Voices Collide, Ideas Unite
Students Discuss What It Means to Be “Human” Using Socratic Seminar in Ms. Briskey's ELA Classes.
Both Karen Russell’s "St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves" and Ovid’s "Metamorphoses" feature characters caught between wolf and human identities. In class, students are exploring the meaning of "human" by comparing these two stories in a Socratic Seminar.
The characters, Claudette and Lycaon, each face transformation at the hands of authority figures, but their experiences reveal different truths about conformity, rebellion, and isolation.
BCU College Trip
End of September, our students had the exciting opportunity to visit Bethune-Cookman University for their Family and Friends Open House. It was a valuable experience that gave our students a first-hand look at college life and the opportunities that await them after graduation.
During the visit, students enjoyed an extended tour of the campus and were able to meet and hear from current Bethune-Cookman students and key faculty members. They also attended sessions about the admissions process and received helpful advice from university leaders on acceptance, scholarships, and strategies for success in higher education.
One of the highlights of the day was seeing some of our Odyssey seniors take the next step toward their futures—several applied to Bethune-Cookman on the spot and were accepted!
We are proud of our students for engaging so fully in this experience and grateful to Bethune-Cookman University for welcoming us so warmly. Opportunities like these allow our students to envision their future and make informed choices about their educational journey.
Thank you for supporting Odyssey as we continue to open doors for our students’ success.

The Titan Bowling team rocked their new uniforms as they went to play against Eau Gallie. Go Titans!
