February's Florida Resiliency Character Trait is GRIT
This month, our focus turns to Grit, a cornerstone of Florida’s Resiliency initiative. Grit is defined as passion and perseverance toward long-term goals—it is the inner strength to keep going even when things get difficult. By cultivating this trait, we encourage our students to view challenges not as roadblocks, but as opportunities to grow, proving that success is often a marathon, not a sprint.

Freshman Leads Robotics Team Toward State Championship
Freshman Reyane Elghazali has spent four years in robotics, rising from a novice builder to team captain. Guided by mentors Mr. Zelonski and Mr. Cooper, Reyane has led the team to the brink of the State Championship, crediting their success to the group’s collective dedication. He plans to study Mechanical Engineering at FIT and hopes to return to the program as a coach.
During "Success Saturday," students are actively engaged in mastering the fundamental base pairing rules of nitrogenous bases through a tactile simulation. The different colored beads represent Adenine (A), Thymine (T), Cytosine (C), Guanine (G), or Uracil (U), helping them visualize how these components bond specifically to one another.
By assembling these models, the students gain a concrete understanding of the nucleotides that make up the complex strands of DNA and RNA, effectively turning abstract genetic codes into tangible structures.
AP Biology
This week 8th grade AVID students observed the amazing AP Biology students in action. They saw how AP students use graphic organizers to make sense of complex content and how purposeful note-taking connects ideas, questions, and understanding. A real-time look at how organization fuels deeper learning.
Creativity Takes Flight
Our Middle School Digital Art students have recently been bringing myths to life! By skillfully blending and manipulating photos of real-world reptiles, they created stunningly realistic dragon scenes that showcase both their imagination and technical abilities. From textured scales to fiery backgrounds, these "dragons" demonstrate our students' growing mastery of digital layering and photo-composition techniques. We are incredibly proud of the artistic vision and detail displayed in these mythical masterpieces!
