Odyssey Student Wins Local Contest

Palm Bay Utilities, in partnership with the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association, held a “Drop Savers” poster contest.  Students in K-12 were encouraged to create a poster depicting a water conservation idea.  Thank you, Visual Arts teacher, Ms. Karina Reilly, for bringing this contest to your art students’ attention and assisting them with the entrance requirements.

Isabella Lopez, 8th grade, won first place in Division 4: 6th-8th grade!  She was recognized by the Utilities Director, City Council Members, the City Manager, and the Mayor at the April City Council meeting. She received awards including a card, trophy, and certificate.  In addition, Isabella’s poster will be displayed at the customer service office located at City Hall for the entire month of April which is Water Conservation Month.  Her winning poster will also be submitted to the American Water Works Association's Florida Section competition for statewide recognition.  Congratulations and good luck in the state competition, Isabella!

Assemblies

Several classes will participate in a special event hosted by Tied Together of the Space Coast and Junior Achievement of the Space Coast's GLOW program on Friday, April 21, 2023.

Tied Together was founded in 2014, and its goal is to teach young men the importance of positive self-image and self-worth.  Boys attending this assembly will learn the basic skills of being a gentleman and how to tie a tie.

Junior Achievement's GLOW program stands for "Get it. Learn it. Own it. Want it."  The girls will attend this assembly hosted by three female STEM professionals who share their stories and answer students' questions about their career paths in order to inspire, encourage, and guide young women as they make career decisions.

After graduation, Darla plans to attend the University of Central Florida and then go to medical school.

Autumn Kelly has attended OCS since seventh grade. Senior dinner at Makotos is one of her best memories of Senior year because it was nice to see classmates outside of school.  Her favorite teachers are Ms. Walker and Ms. Lopez because they help her stay on track and on top of her grades. After graduation, Autumn hopes to attend nursing school.
